Over the Christmas and New Year break I travelled up to Newcastle, while I was there I managed to use Fair Isle in an actual item (a technique that I had only previously attempted it in a class). The pattern is
Selbu Modern.

I am really pleased with the result. I used the same yarn (Easyknits) that I have just used to knit a forest canopy (which I am also wearing in the picture above) and a single ball of Rowan 4ply soft in a lovely deep brown.
Knitting this hat in fair isle allowed me to complete one of my New Years resolutions from 2009 to try some new knitting techniques. This year I have set myself an even bigger challenge - I have signed up to IntSweMoDo2010 (which stands for
International Sweater-a-Month Dodecathon). I cast on for my first jumper January 1st and hopefully will be blogging about it in the near future!
